On project scheduling with irregular starting time costs

چکیده
Maniezzo and Mingozzi (Operations Research Letters 25 (1999), pp. 175–182) study a project scheduling problem with irregular starting time costs. Starting from the assumption that its computational complexity status is open, they develop a branch-and-bound procedure and they identify special cases that are solvable in polynomial time. In this note, we present a collection of previously established results which show that the general problem is solvable in polynomial time. This collection may serve as a useful guide to the literature, since this polynomial-time solvability has been rediscovered in different contexts or using different methods. In addition, we briefly review some related results for specializations and generalizations of the problem.

A Note on Scheduling Problems with Irregular Starting Time Costs
In [9], Maniezzo and Mingozzi study a project scheduling problem with irregular starting time costs. Starting from the assumption that its computational complexity status is open, they develop a branch-and-bound procedure, and identify special cases that are solv-able in polynomial time. In this note, we review three previously established, related results which show that the general problem is...
متن کاملAn Integrated Model of Project Scheduling and Material Ordering: A Hybrid Simulated Annealing and Genetic Algorithm
This study aims to deal with a more realistic combined problem of project scheduling and material ordering. The goal is to minimize the total material holding and ordering costs by determining the starting time of activities along with material ordering schedules subject to some constraints. The problem is first mathematically modelled. Then a hybrid simulated annealing and genetic algorithm is...
متن کاملAN EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION OF THE SOUNDS OF SILENCE METAHEURISTIC FOR THE MULTI-MODE RESOURCE-CONSTRAINED PROJECT SCHEDULING WITH PRE-OPTIMIZED REPERTOIRE ON THE HARDEST MMLIB+ SET
This paper presents an experimental investigation of the Sounds of Silence (SoS) harmony search metaheuristic for the multi-mode resource-constrained project scheduling problem (MRCPSP) using a pre-optimized starting repertoire. The presented algorithm is based on the time oriented version of the SoS harmony search metaheuristic developed by Csébfalvi et al. [1] for the single-mode resource-con...
متن کاملMulti-objective optimization of discrete time–cost tradeoff problem in project networks using non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm
The time–cost tradeoff problem is one of the most important and applicable problems in project scheduling area. There are many factors that force the mangers to crash the time. This factor could be early utilization, early commissioning and operation, improving the project cash flow, avoiding unfavorable weather conditions, compensating the delays, and so on. Since there is a need to allocate e...
متن کاملModified Pareto archived evolution strategy for the multi-skill project scheduling problem with generalized precedence relations
In this research, we study the multi-skill resource-constrained project scheduling problem, where there are generalized precedence relations between project activities. Workforces are able to perform one or several skills, and their efficiency improves by repeating their skills. For this problem, a mathematical formulation has been proposed that aims to optimize project completion time, reworki...
